Black Oil
Why the lubricant loss viscosity and get black color when i work with hydrocarbons like refrigerants?
Thanks in advance

Re: Black Oil
The viscosity loss is due to the saturation of the oil with the HC you are running. You have to use an oil that does not readily absorb the HC.
The black color is most likely a contaminate from either the HC or a problem with the additive package in the oil.
As I ahve suggest before, you need to contact CPI Engineering in Michigan, http://www.cpieng.com/
If you give then the HC composition, type compressor and operating conditions, they can generally get you into the right oil.

Re: Black Oil
The hydrocarbon refrigerants are notorious for causing oil dilution. This is one area of refrigeration you do NOT want to guess at!
Doing so can wreck compressors very quickly. If all else fails, ask for help.

Mebluna, system started up without proper evacuation.
It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Re: Black Oil
You need a complete gas analysis. I have need some trace gases in the HC give the oil a really bad time. In particular, SO2 and H2S along with a little water vapor.
Is this closed loop or an open loop system?

Re: Black Oil
I´have Analized The Gas, I Don´t Have So2, H2s.
And I Can´t Change The Oil Because It Is A Trane System With A Scroll Compresor.
Thanks

Re: Black Oil
What kind of Trane unit do you have?
Most of the Trane scroll's have a tap in the side. Except for the first scroll compressors all have a tap with either a valve, schräder or plug in it.

Re: Black Oil
i think peter1 said it best, you have moisture in the system.
