Evaporator hell: Tube in tube leaking
Dear Friends
I've been working on a TES water-water heat pump manufactured by TES model 25-1 R407 2kg.
The current problem is that the evaporator is tube in tube and has split, causing water to leak everywhere. It's completely inaccessible without disconnecting everything and lifting the unit.
I think it's split because of problems with the source water pump, no flow and therefore low pressure, causing the water to freeze.
I think there's every chance the fridge pipes inside it will have been damaged as well, and the whole evaporator will have to be replaced.
I had it working for a few days but it's gone off again, the source water is running OK so I suspect gas leak now.
TES have gone bust.
Does anyone know where I can buy a suitable replacement or have any advice?
Thanks

Re: Evaporator hell: Tube in tube leaking
Hi, I have used Wilson Titanium for custom water chiller barrels. He makes a very efficient, industrial duty pvc shell/titanium tube evaporator. And can build whatever size you need. I know he has shipped all over the world, but is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. His web site is http://www.titaniumproducts.ns.ca/
He also makes auto-revsersible water-to-water heat pumps.

Re: Evaporator hell: Tube in tube leaking
if you know the capacity, you can check on any coaxial evaporator manufacturer.
any flow control?
is it Chinese?

Re: Evaporator hell: Tube in tube leaking
No, there's no flow control, the manufacturer is British, I not sure about the heat exchanger, I think they just constructed it with parts from all over the place, could be Chinese I guess. I'm hoping that coaxial evaporators come in standard sizes.
Thanks

Re: Evaporator hell: Tube in tube leaking
The only flow control is the source water pump which is fixed speed, its about 2 or 3 bar.

Re: Evaporator hell: Tube in tube leaking
It needs a minimum of 30L / min which it gets no problem

Hi Contactor
Just an old school thought is you could build a tube in tube heat exchanger simply, if you had a rough idea of what the dimensions are. Copper is simple with a little heat and not too sharp on the radius. Stainless you will need to pack with dried sand and heat to cheery red. I have made both with minimal time and tools.

Re: Evaporator hell: Tube in tube leaking
Good Luck, I have a customer with some TES kit and they apparently lost a load of info a few years ago when they moved. But the administrators did put him in touch with a guy that used to work for them who knows the kit I am sure I can get his number if you need it.
Hopefully you will be able to find what you need.
Best regards,
djbe.

Re: Evaporator hell: Tube in tube leaking
Why not place a new PHE beside/outside the unit and leave the defective one in place? Small and cheap.
It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

I'm not sure what a PHE is Peter, is it a Plate Heat Exchanger? Its a tube in tube heat exchanger that's leaking..........?
