Oh the horror!!!
Got asked to look at a couple of coldrooms installed 4 months ago that have been giving trouble......
Second hand stuff, 3 months warranty.....
Heres a list of what i've found so far.
coldroom 1
Panel upsidedown, 20mm hole in bottom of panel, 3x20mm holes in top of panel, incomming swa cable no gland just stuffed through hole, 2 incomming syy cables not made off just stuffed through hole, panel full of water due to holes shorted out compressor 3ph breaker and contactor, main switch cracked, 1994 vintage R12/R22/R502 unit running on R404A, old mineral oil visible in sightglass, syy cable not made off earthed in evaporator, no clips on the pipework, no isolators on the condensing unit, no solenoid valve, 053 drier seems a bit small for field built system (2hp unit), no labeling of refrigerant type/weight, 20mm hole into comp lecky box,
coldroom 2
repeat of above plus 4 extra hole in bottom of panel, 32a breaker running 2.5mm cable to comp (6a load), leaky comp oil sightglass, leaky rotalock valve on reciever, compressor fault/ seized, R404A with mineral oil.
While you are here......
coldroom 3
would not get below 14c, should be 4c. Found defrost heater wired to permanent live no stat, it was only the unit running that stopped it catching fire, drier in backwards, no isolator, fan catching on condenser and blade bent, internal tev with distributor, hole in the bottom of control panel the size of a letter box.
The installing company have supplied a Hammerite rebuild compressor to replace the duff one.
I'm sure there is more to come.....

Re: Oh the horror!!!
Nice Job
I really like the bends in the suction line to the cond unit - and then the liquid line just trawls across the floor
10/10 for trying.

Re: Oh the horror!!!
There's another of those condensing units with carrying handles
Mind you the location of that condensing unit appears to have been a site measured position as in
- Where do want this mister?
- Just put it down there mate.
- OK
- Fitter comes along and pipes it up before anyone can change their mind.
It's the little things..... there are three holes in the panel already so they drill three new ones - DOH!Brian - Newton Abbot, Devon, UK

Re: Oh the horror!!!
On second thoughts - I think I'll go with Franks' install from earlier.

Re: Oh the horror!!!
Swapped the compressor for the "rebuilt" one and found this green stuff in the suction valve and filter.
Oil sight glass was leaky but luckily i had a spare o ring for it. Changed the oil to ester. while looking into the sump the bottom of the sump was rusty coloured copper plating? Final pic is my oil changing device Also system had no gas left in it, leak on reciever conection.

Re: Oh the horror!!!
Ah, this beauty reminds me of a "BLAST" frezzer I went to once. Pretty similar install standards. But my one had part winding start, and you guess it it was running on 2 thirds of its windings, with every one unsure as to why it it couldnt get a sst below -20degc. Got to love that 3 month partial warranty (Yeah Not That Part)
