underfloor heating and cooling
Hi Dear all,
Underfloor heating is popular in cold area of our country and is moving to the southern area(rather cold in winter)but it seldom applies to summer cooling. It's an energy save tech due to lower water temp for heating and higher temp for cooling. Would you tell me something about your country's application? and the main concerns in practical operation? thx!
regards
LC

Re: underfloor heating and cooling
Hi LC,
Are you talking about underfloor heating or radiant panel systems?
Here are several links on radiant panel systems for your review.

Re: underfloor heating and cooling
For cooling, Lichuan, I shouldn't use it.
It will give a uncomfortable feeling because the cold will stay against the floor .
If you walk around in summer with light shoes, you will feel the cold at your feet but that's all.
What about condensation on the surface if you wants to lower the room temperature? It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Re: underfloor heating and cooling
Hi Peter,
Yeah, cooling floor is not popular as cooling ceiling because the lower temp on foot is uncomfortable. But combine floor heating with cooling can save initial and maintenance cost, the condensation problem shall be solved by room dewpoint control. I'm not sure if this tech has market potential-

Re: underfloor heating and cooling
Hi LC, in my house I had 120 sqm of floor heating. It`s a dream compares with conventional systems. I worked with GIACOMINI . The comfort is very high and the gas consumption is 10% lower ! Please note : very important is the house insulation . I built my house with 10 cm polystirene external insulation , because in Romania in the winter can be -30 Celsius degree (sometime).
Best regards,Marian

Re: underfloor heating and cooling
hi
it is not practical in cooling ,,cause the cold air is heaver than the hot air,so most of cold air stay neer the floor and do not distrubute to all room volum
this condition i see it in jordan (i live there 5 years)
many of hotel room changed it underfloor cooling to fan coil cooling , is is mutch better
thanks

# to prevent uncomfortable cold breeze on foot, the floor surface temp shoudn't be too low, which limit this kind of system's capacity

Re: underfloor heating and cooling
Dear LC
I find your posts about energy efficiency in HVAC very intersting.
Many of us ,never looked at the energy used by HVAC equipment during our practicing days.
I have recently designed a HVAC system for a four story building in India, using displacment ventilation. The air was not moved under floor, instead columns were used as diffusers with air velocity near 66 FPM (0.3 m/s)
The cooling is achieved by indirect evaporative coooling and (small ammonia chiller comes on for dehumidification during muggy weather) with
heat recovery from the return air .Thehumidified return air precools the incomming fresh air over a heat pipe heat exchanger before exhasting.
You are right it is more effivcient and also offers the best indoor air quality

Hi Darshi
Your project is very interesting. I hope you can share something with me. How about the small ammonia chiller and heat pipe HX? really a good topic
if convenient, you can give my email :lc_shi@163.com

Re: underfloor heating and cooling
The efficient way that the floor is heated means less heat loss, even distribution of heat, lower operating temperatures, healthier and more comfortable environments and greater design flexibility. All of these mean that underfloor heating is Eco-friendly, uses less fuel, can be used with alternative heat sources and operates at a lower cost than conventional systems.
