Help needed
Hi all I'm darren
I'm leaving the navy and hopefully to work in rac I have been doing this on and off for last 12 Years
I currently have fgas cat 3 and 4 and done some brazing. In January in doing a course where I will gain fgas cat 1 also get 17th edition and a car air con c&g
Also citb brazing and pipe work and citb electrics
What else will I need to start in rac
I also will be doing a work placement for two weeks

Hi Darren,
Seem like you'll have the leagal requirements covered with you F-Gas ticket etc, many companies want someone with a few years experience so you might find it difficult at the start. Stick with it though, a good friend of mine left the army around 10 years ago and has worked his way up to being a senior engineer working on chillers and on good money too!
What type of systems or area do you hope to specialise in? Where abouts are you in th UK?

Most of my work has been on chiller units but done a fair bit on industrial size fridges and freezers

find out if anyone is takeing on in your area/ not a good time of the year to be fair but many employers never mind anyone asking they will be looking for some practical knowledge/experience what part of england you in south / north

Make sure that the work placement 2 weeks is with a feild service company, and get hands on experience with actual service calls.

Half way through fgas now our instructor says we won't have a problem finding work even though I have 12 years experience I need nvq2 but with out job how do I get it

Be pro-active and start with all the major corps JCI , Trane etc., go to their web sites and click on careers. Your big plus is 12 years experience and currents quals., here Navy guys never have a problem getting placements. Good luck.
