York (Luxaire) defrost board conundrum on heat pump

can anyone tell me why 24V from the transformer should go to the second stage comp coil before going to the load side of the main relay? The other lead from the transformer goes to the other terminal on the load side of the relay. I can find no other source of 24V to power the board and i have voltage at all the right spots (except on the board) but it is a no go.

I'm sure I have not given enough info and i will try to find a readable wiring diagram. the one in the book is too small to copy. It is a Luxaire HL8B048 heat pump

    Thanks

Nope, i am not a Luxaire dealer but I inherited a unit that I want to get running and I thought it odd for power to go straight to the coil on the comp and then to the load side of the relay. Seems like there is no way to switch on the comp or to power the board. Then again, I may be totally dumb...
