Re: Off topic chat
well i have been giving a lot of thought to time travel is it physically possible or is it purely a theoretical concept ?

Re: Off topic chat
einstein theorized it but is it actually possible in a practical way ? lol so you could leave home do the job and be back 2 mins after you left

Re: Off topic chat
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh but you could do all that and still be home 2 mins after you left time is basically a measurement of the earths rotations of the sun and light hitting the earth so if you traveled at the speed of light time would stand still in theory if you went faster it would go backwards in theory

As its not turned off topic and into a conversation, I am moving it into the general area.

Re: Off topic chat
Nice Topic Simon,
Very interesting !
I personally do believe that Eintiens theory has merit, but if/when we have the ability to warp time, this could never be acheived in a day.
The main reason behind this is that the human body has soft organs that would need to be protected during accelaration/decelaration of the speed required to acheive this & the only way this could be done is by controlling the 'time' this takes
The speed to warp time will also need to far exceed lightspeed, which I do not believe we will ever acheive, as to do so 'if' we had the means of propulsion, how would we build a craft that could take the pounding it would recieve from earths atnosphere, this maybe possible one day in the vacuum of space but not here on earth.
Sorry to dissapoint you's gent's but feel free to object to my conclusions, we may get somewhere

ps: lets leave a recent disscusion off this thread please ... WebRam has the final word & still needs time to acquire the facts... thanksIf the World did not Suck, We would all fall off !

Re: Off topic chat
this will be on off topic if you can use steam ie boiled water to drive a turbine and produce elastictrickery can we use a refrigerant to do the same thing even if its on a tiny scale by placing a micro turbine blade in the suction line and havin magnets attached to blades and on external pipe
CM was actually thinking of space as placed to carry out tests as with no gravity G force would be alot less or non existant maybe tapping into the sun as an energy source ( very long extension lead lol ) maybe using one of the old shuttles as they goin cheap at mo and hey presto time travel lolI can fix broke but I cant fix stupid :)

Re: Off topic chat
I like the Shrodinger's cat principal, the true skill in repairing things isn't the actual fixing, but in knowing when to turn it back on in the reality where it will work and not the one where its died.

Re: Off topic chat
Jesus,
this is turning into some list of topics, not come across this one before, Jon
( taken from wikipedia )
Schrödinger intended his thought experiment as a discussion of the EPR article, named after its authors—Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen—in 1935.[1] The EPR article highlighted the strange nature of quantum entanglement, which is a characteristic of a quantum state that is a combination of the states of two systems (for example, two subatomic particles), that once interacted but were then separated and are not each in a definite state. The Copenhagen interpretation implies that the state of the two systems undergoes collapse into a definite state when one of the systems is measured. Schrödinger and Einstein exchanged letters about Einstein's EPR article, in the course of which Einstein pointed out that the state of an unstable keg of gunpowder will, after a while, contain a superposition of both exploded and unexploded states.
You can try to explain the conclusion here mate

Re: Off topic chat
Well, if you get a cat and put it in a box with some radioactive stuff for a time, when you open the box the cat may be alive or it may be dead depending on if the radioactive stuff has fired out a proton or such, the theory goes that the cat is both alive and dead at the same time, like two parallel realities, when you chose to open the box one of those realities becomes the one your in, and the cat is alive or dead.
So with a compressor thats tripped on the klixon, the skill is to turn the isolator back on in the reality where its ok and runs if you can't be arsed to change it or in the faulty one when your running low on beer tokens. HTH

Re: Off topic chat
That will do all of us out of a job M.S. So what is to happen when "every action has an equal and opposite reaction"? Would that mean, if you could choose, or know which reality to follow, then someone else would have to carry the burden of bad luck, as in Murphy's law?

Re: Off topic chat
well it appears einstien was wrong on some his ideas oh well we cant always be right perhaps it was his alternate ego that was wrong or just his way of thinking will he be remembered as one of the greatest minds of our time i think he will how many of you out there have the odd spare identity ? do you use it ? do you have more than one ? if so why do you have it ? does it serve its purpose ? what is that purpose ?

Re: Off topic chat
Time travel... if we could invent it... we would already know it, as someone from the future would have come to announce it, wouldn't he? I think only Hiro Nakamura can achieve it XD

Re: Off topic chat
I travel to the past on a regular basis, going back in time to do jobs that I'd already done to find some one else has done them (whom looked exactly like me apparently). The problem is that when I travel in time it would appear I do it independently of the rest of the universe.............This being the case I get round the Novikov self-consistency principle.
I know it sounds better than admitting I'm losing my marblesQuidvis Recte Factum Quamvis Humile Praeclarum.

Re: Off topic chat
HuH? Novikov self ...what, principle?? Nah, i've seen all the "back to the future" movies and it just spins me out thinking how i would have to avoid myself everytime i knew where i was going to be, but never thought previously that, when i was avoiding my earlier visit, that i could see into the future and possibly have me, watching for me in an alternate reality?? Ah, now waiting for me to return and edit this post without me, in this time line, knowing anything about what i'm about to edit.
