Samsung AQV12VBAN
Hello everybody ...
I am calling for your help since it is Christmas and no service is available until Monday . I rely solely to a/c for heating and you can imagine what a huge problem i am facing.
Yesterday , there was a black-out in my area.
I have two AQV12VBAN units , installed in side by side rooms ...after the black out , one of them started blinking ...the other one was ok.
I located the Option code for my models 05477717521d and tried to install it back to the flashing unit ...nothing happened ...moreover , this unit when it comes in operation , makes a short circuit and gives me a partial black out at home.Anyway , i thought it is out of my power to fix it so i decided to stick with the working model in the other room (which didn't suffer from the power failure)
Due to my mistake however (i was experimenting with the Option codes in the room where the working unit is) , i managed to ''destroy'' this unit as well .Now , the ,previously working, unit is also out of order ...the outside unit doesn't start
To make the long story short :
...i did sth bad myself using the remote control and the option codes since this model was working properly even after the elect. black-out...
1) is it possible to ''destroy'' a working unit by entering wrong Option codes (i entered the above option code in both units but when i press the ON button , the unit flashes all signs and blings 3-4 times and then it goes off ) ...i managed to put out of order the working unit by pressing the option codes on the remote control of the damaged unit
2) is there sth i can do now ? is it possible that the above option code is not the correct one ? or maybe , is there any other code for these models ?
3) since i have two units , what makes the two remote controls separate from each other ?
Many thanks for your time people ...

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Also ,
In the previously working unit (the one that didn't suffer flashing issue by the power black-out but i managed to put it out of order by messing around with the remote controls) :
1)When i press ON , now the unit is working in FAN mode or sth , blowing air but the outside unit is off
2) The air suction grill is now left open ...when i press OFF the unit turns off but the grill doesn't come back in position.

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Hi and thanks for checking ,
In off state , the unit doesn't signal anything ..the signal panel is completely off ...the only odd thing is that the air suction grill is left in Open position ...other than that , the OFF state of the unit looks normal.
I am telling you , i am 100% certain that i managed to put this unit out of order by messing with the remote control (and the codes) of the other unit. ( which is exactly the same model) .That's why , maybe there is a way to reinstate it back to normal operation ...this way , i can spend holidays with at least one working unit , until i can Service Center to fix the other unit as well ...
One thing that might help :
When i enter the Option input menu with my remote , i get four groups of number : the O and 1 group that is the expected ones according to the Instructions but i also get the 2 and 3 group of numbers which i leave as they are (20 00 00 and 30 00 00) .

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Where did you found description of option code change and did you fully understand and act as prescribed there?
What is your remote look like?

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Hi ,
I found a pdf here in the forum called ''Alignment & Adjustment'' ...it is an extract from the service manual of my model exactly (AQV12VBAN) ...the whole procedure is described there and it has the specific Option code (which is the same as the one found in the link you provided me with above).
My remote control is the one appearing on the ''Alignment & Adjustment'' pdf for AQV12VBAN ...the remote has a sticker on it : ARH-1362
I don't know if this will help , but how can i see the leds of the outside unit ? maybe there is an error signal there but i don't see any leds ...i took out the small wires protection door but i cannot still see clearly the leds on the outside unit.

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Do it again as described in that manual and check that you entered right codes as described at step 3 at page 3-5.
After entering right codes and presing ON-OFF button with remote pointed to indoor unit receiver, you should hear "bling".
Also check framed text at bottom of that page.
Outside LED-s you cannot see if you don't dismantle outdoor unit top cover. It is not meant to be accessible for non trained person and I advise you against doing anything with outdoor (or indoor) unit in that direction.

Thanks for your time Nike ...
I did the whole procedure over and over again ...as soon as i press the ON/OFF button , the panel flashes all signs 3-4 times and blings 3-4 times ...then it goes off .I tried everything the manual says , including disconnecting the power plug and retrying etc. It seems as if the option code is not the correct one ...but if it not the correct one , why the unit dosn't flash constantly while in OFF state ?
I am doing the procedure exactly as per the manual ...the only difference is that the TIMER OFF button has no use for inputing the respective code numbers (i use SET/CANCEL button instead which is doing the job). (?)
Also , the manual says nothing about the 20 00 00 and 30 00 00 group of numbers in the option menu : after putting the Option code , i press the MODE button to verify it is the correct one .
I am getting the following groups :
05 47 77
17 52 1d (so far , so good)
20 00 00
30 00 00
I can also change the 20 00 00 and 30 00 00 groups but i don't mess with them.
I hoped that since this problem appeared after i messed with the r/c and the option codes , it would be easy to fix it
One thing :
What makes the two remote controls of two identical units to separate from each other ? before the disaster , the r/c of unit A was not usable with unit B.

I am not familiar with Samsung that much!

Maybe products for your market has some diference from other countries and option codes are not as stated in document.
You probably cannot do anything without local authorized Samsung service.

What makes the two remote controls of two identical units to separate from each other ? before the disaster , the r/c of unit A was not usable with unit B.
Do you have instalation sheet? Maybe there is explanation for that.

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Anyway , tomorrow i am calling the Samsung Service ...both units were bought 4 months ago and are under warranty.
At least , i want to know (so i can be prepared):
Is it possible to damage a ''healthy'' unit by messing around with the option codes ?This is definitely the case at least with the second unit ...

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
i think you have done right and wrong, good call leaving the systems that trip, not a good call "experimenting" with option codes,my advise is aways try the right option code after a power cut then if this does not solve it,contact your local service center,my guess is your will need at least one PCB but please feedback what is found

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Thanks for the advise Paul ...
There are too many things that went wrong ...what i cannot understand is :
1) why the panel doen't flash any error code
2) why the air suction cover is remained in open position although the aircon starts/stops.
When i operate the unit , i have the impression that it thinks it is another model ...for example , the air suction cover doesn't close (and as a result , it doesn't open) as if the unit thinks that it doesn't have an air suction cover to open (which is the case in most air cons) .
Also when i start the unit , i press MODE and the aircon replies to all commands with BLING ,apart from the HEAT mode command ...as if it is a model without heating capacity.
Regarding the option codes , i want to believe that i am not the only person alive that send wrong option codes to the unit ...if a failure would be likely to occur due to wrong option code , then the whole thing would be more emphasized.
Finally , i am curious to find out what these 20 00 00 and 30 00 00 groups are in the option menu.
I already called the Service center and waiting for them to come ...hopefully soon.Surely , i will send you all some feedback.

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
"normally" enter the wrong option codes brings up a fault code of 163 and then use just re-enter the right code (you are not alone no i myself have done this a number of times) with no display,i would check the jack plug is connected
the extra numbers on your remote, iam not sure about i use an old style remote that never leave leaves my side as find all the new remotes a pain in the **** for option codes as iam so used to mine as ive got use to the buttons
as long as the option code you entered was right and it is i have checked, and it was entered by pressing the on/off button i see no problem
sounds like an indoor PCB is faulty but i can only guess without seeing itLast edited by superswill; 29-12-2008 at 10:49 AM.

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Do the old small remotes operate the newer samsungs paul?
OP: I've done wrong codes too, and never had a problem reprogramming. Wrong codes may not get the unit to work, but it doesn't kill it and stop it accepting new codes. All samsungs had louvres that open and close, so programmings got nothing to do with that. I'd say the PCBs are damaged as there's no output to the louvre motor, and no bad programming would stop the louvre motor operation. Though the louvre motor make be stuffed, or the lourve spindle may be cracked (happened in the larger sh30s a lot but not the smaller ones).Last edited by paul_h; 29-12-2008 at 12:18 PM.

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
The second unit was working normally until the second i pressed ON/OFF to complete the option code installation.
The whole thing happened before my eyes and ears ..the unit was in heat mode working great , i pressed the button , heard the three, four blings and that's it.
Therefore , i am 100% certain that the whole malfunction was triggered by the remote control ...otherwise , we are talking about a mad coincidence
Anyway , my worst fear came true today , since the guys at Samsung service are very busy or very few due to holidays ...they will come to check the machines on Wednesday and they will not bring any PCBs with them (just in case they need to replace them). From what i understand , they will come to reset the units ...so i guess i will have working a/c only after New Year (2009?)

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Nope , two separate 12VBAN units installed in side by side rooms ...the outside units have 2 meters distance between them outside (same height)

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
So , the nice guys from Samsung just left the house :
No burnt pcbs ,no faulty parts ...just another option code
From what the Service team told me , there is a code that not only fixes these kind of problems but also ''eliminates'' the possibility of reoccurance after a black-out in the future.
In deed , they messed with the remote for 5 secs and now both units work perfectly . They used a code that for sure it is not the one listed here for 12VBAN since i managed to get a glimpse of one pair of numbers (and it doesn't match with any of the pairs of common option code)
I asked for the code but they refused politely to give it to me.The good thing is that they didn't charge me anything for the whole thing.
Thumbs up for the Samsung support , according to my experience !
So i guess , that's a happy end to my cold story.
Thank you all for your assistance and support and keep up the good work...

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Oops
After some hours of smooth operation in full HEAT mode , i now got a dF signal on the Panel ...initially , it appeared on the first unit in the bedroom ...i turned off the unit , restarted in heat mode and it works again.
After half hour , i got the same message on the second unit and did the same thing. Now , both are working (until the dF appears again)
What the hell is this dF thing ? when it appears , the unit stops heating and seems idle...and why it is not mentioned anywhere on the Service manual ?
I am starting to think that my units got a virus or sth
I wasn't so lucky after all ...

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
I read the Operation manual again ...in one paragraph says sth abt Defrosting during HEAT mode ...when this happens , the unit stops working for seven minutes. It doesn't mention anything abt signalling on the panel though
Is this what dF means ? hopefully ...

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
yes DF means defrost, and yes they are two set of option codes but ive said to much haha
i dont have these codes but do know of them there is also a few extra tricks you can do to any PCB using a laptop
but i would have to shoot you if i told youPaul

Re: Samsung AQV12VBAN
Personally i will never mess with codes again ,i shall leave that to technicians. But my case was a difficult one:
1)My house has no heating apart from these a/c
2)It is quite cold in Athens right now
3)My machines broke down in the beginning of the Christmas holidays
That's why i tried to ''repair'' them myself in the first place.
These AQV12VBAN were bought by Praktiker shop at a price of 500 euro each which was a very good bargain for a 12.000 BTU Inverter ...now that i needed service for them , i realized that they are not imported via the Official Samsung representative of Greece but it is an independent import of Praktiker , who has contracted with a Technical Company to provide warranty service.
