hot gas defrost valve
hi - I was wondering could some one inform me of the exact usage of a hot gas defrost valve on a R22 system and the also if there is a relative info in changing one?

Hi shills33
a hot gas valve is a generic term, could be a solinoide used to let hot gas in or a pressure regulating valve to raise/control the hot gas pressure to a level at which ice will melt off the coil (usually about a pressure of about 10 deg c)

The other thing about change. Just remember to be prepare to recovery all R-22 , usually that valve is in the discharge line.
