Re: Maximum flex length
I don't think anyone's come up with a law for that yet, but I can tall you what happens: the fuse blows!
Back in my youth I had to do some welding about sixty five yards from the plug in the wall. This was pre inverter welding kit. The fuse blew again and again. Silly billies that we were we put a split pin in place of the fuse.
It worked, but made a nasty mess of the fuse board

Re: Maximum flex length
The only thing that I know of is that extension leads should be clipped if longer than 2m which is why most shops only sell the short ones.

Re: Maximum flex length
Length isnt a issue as such what you have to remember is the longer the lead the more voltage you will drop and more current you will draw. Most ext. leads start at 15/25m using 1.5mm, we rented a mobile fridge unit to fords once to keep there free ice cream frozen the unit started playing up after one day went to see what the problem was and they had approx 400/500m of ext cables connected(british 16atype) using various 1.5 and 2.5mm. Chewed there for that idiots.
