Heat pump made from a TM-15HD?

A friend got a TD-15HD compressor and wants to make a heat pump, It is rated for R-134a at 9CU (147cc).

He wants to run propane with it with a half horse electric motor.

What sort of capacity would we get from it? I'm trying to figure out the size of TX valve that I'd need for it, We are aiming for 1Ton or so.

The lowest temp we get here at worst during winter is -10C and even then rarely.

Sorry MG but can't identify this compressor from the numbers.

Do you know the make as well?

    Seltec
    Comp Type: TM-15HD
    Part# : 0630-7402
    Serial# : 562D128080
    Oil: ZXL 100PG 150 cm^3

    Refrigerant : R-134a

On the lable uptop of the compressor reads:

    Tama MFG.
    S.A.E.-J639

    Then a silver lable reading:

    488-45234

    Have you looked at :

    www.seltec.com

? They show the duty relative to compressor RPM (as it is a automotive compressor).

Re: Heat pump made from a TM-15HD?

So from what I can tell if I use a 1hp motor rigged with the pully set so compressor shaft speed is 1000rpm I should be able to move around 1.5 to 2 Tons using R-290 with it, and I should use a 200sus Minerol oil.

    Does this sound ruffly correct?

I'd be interested to know how the shaft seal stands up over time. Not sure I'd run propane through it to be honest, the seals can and do leak and with something flammable inside,... I doubt nowt bad would occur with regard to ignition but... why not stick to correctly sized hermetic or run regular gas through the Seltec?

    Anyhow, the project sounds fun.

I'd rather just Use R-134a but for what ever reason he wants to take a simple solution and rape it until he's negated any and all power efficiency or benefit, Now I'm just perpetually stalling it to kill this misguided venture off until he either just uses a proper refrigerant and a pump down cycle like I specified.
