elm/ honewell no more

has anyone else heard the rumour that honeywell are winding up elm controllers and service dept?

Not heard of anything yet and i hope this doesnt happen. I think Elm is the most user friendly system out there. Yes you do have to have the handheld but its so much easier than anything else, not having to refer to bits of paper to see which menu number control what

Yes, it is true

Refrigeration Control Service Department (ELM) will close on 31st March.

Product will still be manufactured until 30th April and products dispatched until 30th June.

This does not affect the business of Honeywell (Realm) at S****horpe.

It looks like I will be locking the door and switching off the lights sometime in June - if not before.

Good, but I am not that good....lol

I have worked on Elm systems for quite a few years now but whenever there was a major fault with a pack controller these guys were called out (Ryan I think his name was?)
This guy definitely knew his stuff. Without these guys Elm control systems will die very quickly.

@Armac, do you work for Elm then?

ELM has been out of the US market for many years. Most the ELM systems have been replaced as they failed.

I loved ELM.
I know they had there faults but what system does not.
I loved the simplicity of the programing. The early ones were tempremental but they were good on the whole.
In my oppinion they were doomed as soon as the RDM controler came onto the market. There is no comparison to a system that can replace all the other systems on the market, is reliable and at a fraction of the price.

Yes I to favoured elm,the down side was the superheat trap.If a pack closed down and on start up there was no td across the coil then the case would just sit there until it went through a defrost or you greated a td. Unless you know of another way round this.

If anyone is interested I specialise in repairing Tuscan 4/5's any type YAD,EEV etc and also Setup Units. 10 days max turnaround on repairs of Tuscans.

Can also look at other Honeywell/Elm products if there is demand.

I worked for Elm many years ago and I'm sorry to hear that Honeywell has given up a good product range.

It is a shame that elm is going, it was a very user frendly system. It did have a few problems with it, but once you had worked with it for any length of time you knew what they where. RDM does seem to be the replacement for it, in the somerfields anyway. And you can tell that it the cheaper option .

On all of the EEV controllers, just switch it off and back on again. The valve opening reverts to 45% on start-up and should get you going a bit quicker.

A few things may be at fault here, but i would look at how your pack is running first.Is it controlled by a simple step controller?.

The problem occurs if the pack is shut down for what ever reason, all the cases evaps in and out equalise and when the pack is re-started there is no TD across the coil so the cases just sit there until a defrost occurs or cases are switched on and off then they will open to 45%.Unlike RMS where you can set a minimum valve opening,say 10% so you never get into the stalling situation.

Yes, it's a very common occurrence.

If the suction probe reads colder than the evap inlet probe then the EEV will shut down and only open again after a defrost or power loss.
