Cloudy oil

Tyler equalizer rack. +20 and a+35. 507 refrigerant, poe oil. All compressors off on ofc. F25 oil filter plugged. The oil is gray in color doesn't smell burned. I changed the oil,changed the oil filter and installed rcw high moistuer driers. I have one compressor thats knocking and not pumping oil. I don't see how moisture could have entered the system, and the discharge was never that high. I'm the only one that services that store. Any ideas?

how did it get bad enough to plug the filter? If the filter was plugged I would recommend pulling the the oil screens on the pots and checking the sump screens on the compressor at least.

Cloudy oil is a interesting find. Was this rack a change-out from a CFC with Mineral to POE? With high temps your oil will turn black or dark dark red brown, you will also have TX screens all over the store start to plug up. I would use a acid test kit on the oil and determine the condition of the oil. Change the filter a couple of times over the next month to get the crap out of the system. I would use a OF303 but I would not go with a Bypass filter. POE is a not really a "oil" its more of a detergent and cleans EVERYTHING in a system. It always ends up in the filters and inlet screens. Cleanliness is next to godliness with a POE rack. POE can be effectively cleaned with oil filter changes and should not need replacement unless your dealing with burnout's or breakdown due to high disc temps.

If you have carried out the regular checks you could consider fitting a Temprite coalescent separator.

Chances are it was metal in the oil. one of the compressors on the rack was off on oil fail. When I restarted it, the compressor was knocking and had no oil pressure. After the oil change and filter changes it's clear again. Spoke to specialist at nu-calgon the oil manufacture. He told me it sounds like metal in the oil. I will send a sample to him to analyze for free. I suspect the f25 got plugged and management kept reseting the ofc. To little knowledge is dangerous.The low temp rack has an A8 defrost diff valve and every six months that valve would slam shut. the manager would reset the hpc would not call for service. Eventually the wires on the compressor contactors would start melt and the contactors would short due to high amp draw from high discharge . Parker finally came out with a cartridge they promised me would not lock up. So far So good after a years use.
