Modify fridge/freezer combo into undercounter freezer only
Hello,
I've got what seems like a simple modification (engineering-wise).
Would the modification depicted in the attached jpg be possible for a dual compressor LG fridge-freezer?
The refrigerator hot pipe would lay down on top of the freezer and be re-sodered with 90 degree elbows at the point where the hot pipe narrows between the refrigerator and freezer compartments.
Would like to get information on what it would cost to recharge the system with refrigerant as well.
Any guidance and assurance are greatly appreciate. Thank you!Last edited by schmekis; 03-10-2022 at 07:52 PM.

Does it have one or two compressors?
Probably need to keep the full length of the capillary tube.
Would it not be cheaper to sell the fridge freezer and buy a undercounter freezer?Last edited by seanf; 03-10-2022 at 08:54 PM.

.
No, it would not work.
The system is sized for the 2 evaporators and the top refrigerator evaporator is fed
first, then the refrigerant floods to the freezer evap, that is why there is an accumulator
on it.
If you cut the fridge evap out you would seriously affect the size and capacity of the system
and the compressor would be oversized for the freezer evap alone.
The hot pipe is just the discharge pipe that runs through the door jam to keep it warm,
this prevents the door from freezing to the door frame.

Having a closer look at the drawing something seems wrong.

The refrigerant is going the wrong way round the freezer evaporator??
