Possibly to relieve any overpressure that may occur within the section that could be valved off but still contains liquid.

    Hi

    it is check valve .
when you want to replace core inside filter you close inlet valve and outlet valve in filter.
then you pour hot water on core dryer .
all liquid comes to gas and goes back by check valve to condenser side ,so you save a lots of refrigerant liquid

    Agree with mbc.

would be useful for isolating and pumping down the filter by adding hot water, or simply as a safety against trapped liquid.

On our ammonia plants we use 1 bar safety/check valves on all parts where you may get trapped liquid when you close it for service.
