Samsung RSH5SBBP F/F Freezer not cooling?

    Hi Guys.
A Happy New year to you all!
Sorry for not getting too involved (I still watch from afar so to speak), only as I am retired now.

I seem to be relegated to helping friends and family with faulty domestic kit.
Could anyone be kind enough to help advise on the above which apparently has started only maintaining the fridge temp.
Allegedly the freezer cabinet has been defrosted and is not being used?
would anyone have access to a service manual that would be a great start.
    Many thanks.

Have they turned off the freezer or is it just not working?

Thanks for your prompt reply Frank.
    A very good link also.
    Cheers Al.
Its my Neighbours Fridge Freezer, I hopefully will get a look at it tomorrow.
He has done some on off type of tests which all apparently resulted in no improvement I believe. This was all explained on my doorstep. So as i say hopefully we all will be a little wiser once I have had chance to look at the f/freezer.
Thanks once again for the input Guys.

Re: Samsung RSH5SBBP F/F Freezer not cooling?

    Cheers Brian.
Given how all my x colleagues are being run raged and Have been all through the covid lockdown. I feel fortunate!
I do miss a lot of the Guys I worked with or for Though.
    OK.
So trotted around to my Neighbours to look at said Fridge Freezer.
The Fridge is being used and maintaining its set point of 3c.
    Freezer sitting at 12c.
held 2 buttons in on control panel to get it to display the Freezer and Fridge Temp Figure 8's.
    No Faults indicated.
As its a side by side I concentrated on the Freezer side. I removed the rear panel within the cabinet to expose the Evap. which was spotless. I proved the controller diagnostics by powering back up with the Air Circulation fan disconnected.
    And promptly got Fault 21.
    Reconnecting cleared the fault!
    selected the Power freeze option.
The Compressor then started up with slightly more Noise than before.
Powered down and back on the F/F and same scenario with the self diagnosis showing no faults. I was also monitoring the Compressor, its condenser and fan. With the condenser fluff and debris having already been cleared by the fridges owner.
Condenser fan running but not the comp.
    Selected the Power freeze option.
The Compressor then started up with slightly more Noise than before.
However at no time of its running did the comp have large temp diff across it. I did not measure it but when laying my hand upon the pipes I could not discern a large diff.
Probably spent another hour looking for signs of a leak and watching the Freezer temp display drop down to 12c at best (Cabinet air Temp was measuring 15c (Kane Thermometer) at bottom of Cabinet)
I did not find any signs visually or with Snoop of any leaks.
Just wondering what you Guys think?
    Thanks Steve.
I forgot to mention that on initial start up it was very hard to discern whether the comp was running or not.

So, witth freezer cabinet temp around 12/15C, how can the fridge achieve 3C. Assuming that the fridge gets it's cooling from the freezer section (as is normal)

Re: Samsung RSH5SBBP F/F Freezer not cooling?

    A good Question Frank.
I have to admit that I did not check the Internal temp of the fridge with my Thermometer. I only concentrated on the Internal temps of the Empty Freezer.
However given that the fridge has always been running and is still in use. Its actually full of goods / produce. I assume that the Internal temp is being maintained by what's inside!
I did ask for the freezer also to be left running although empty to establish whether the Freezer cabinet will actually drop below the 12c being displayed at the time of my leaving.
I did even discuss with them about giving the space a load I.e. a tub of water etc.
we can follow that one up if you or anyone else thinks it worthwhile?
    Thanks for the input.

I would start from scratch with a 48 hour power disconnect and doors open.

Is there not 2 evaps on these side by sides? If so check for a solenoid.

Re: Samsung RSH5SBBP F/F Freezer not cooling?

I am think you may have something there Al. The air ducting (Covers) in the freezer direct the air up and over the product within the freezer cabinet. Not into the Fridge, which has its own pipework going into the fridge space.
Does anyone have any parts links etc. which may have an exploded view?
    Thanks Grizzly

Re: Samsung RSH5SBBP F/F Freezer not cooling?

My Samsung French door ff has 2 evaps but a single fridge circuit from 1 compressor.
I experience problems with the ice maker but not box temps and have to carry out manual defrosts of the ice box and fridge evap. Ice build up is mega despite replacing all sensors and defrost heater.
The liquid line first goes into the fridge section evap then the ice box finally into the freezer evap. Not a proper control of evap temps in my opinion. Maybe Samsung should stick to tv's
There is a class action in the US against Samsung for this

    Just to advise guys!
The F/F owner has yet to come back to me but He, I believe is giving the F/F an Ambient defrost as suggested.
I will update you all when i know more.

Well the latest is that after a power off from Friday to Sunday the fridge is OK. But the Freezer does not want to know. It will not Freeze temp indicated stay around 8-10c.

Re: Samsung RSH5SBBP F/F Freezer not cooling?

    Hi Frank.
I don't think the heater is stuck on! Because as I said before. When i last checked it all out and observed (several times ) the reboot diagnostics. Plus Manual controller fault checks!
    Nothing is showing in fault.
I am wondering if it may have lost a bit of gas? (R600)
Anyway my Neighbour is going to call in the local domestic fridge Guy, to take a look!
I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks for the help and advise.
