Very High Energy Consumption

Hello

I have a 2m wide display-fridge which is having a very high energy consumption, I mean, HUGE , something like a welding kit or so,..,

I was wondering what the causes of this migth be and where I should concentrate my efforts.

If the condensing unit is located beneath the cabinet, then extend the pipes and locate compressor outside the shop,

Also fit see through blinds

What is a huge consumption for you?
How have you measured this coming to this conclusion?

I think Peter is on the right track. Is the energy use higher than the nameplate rating, or, higher than the owner would like to see?

Well, it seems that this fridge is using more than 50% of the electricity in the while shop, and there are many other appliances in the premises, including 2 other coolers 2 and milkshake machines, but when this display fridge is disconnected, the meter goes at less than half the speed. Making a rough estimate, it is costing around £200 a WEEK to run a single fridge!!...

An open (is it open?) refrigerated display is something which consumes always a lot of energy.
You can try to install night-shades for it, increase temperature during the night 2K to 4 K, ...
A counter needs +/- 400 to 500 W/meter, an open display +/- 1000 W/meter, even 1500 W/m

i doubt its £200 a week! think it blow the fuse constantly,been there lots of times with this, blow the condenser nice and clean,check the running current is o/k agaist the plate,gas charge o/k and cuts in/out on the t/stat,and if all thats as it should be,thats as good as it gets,if not sort the problem,thing is the recent explosion in energy prices is hurting everyone big time and machines with large units and open tops etc are very thirsty,as said up the posts you could put the unit out side that allways helps but it needs to be a DX system[expansion valve]. cheers.

What type of defrost system has it, is it an electrical heater tape, or has it a heated drain sump. I wounld check to see if these are on all the time.

Have you checked the amp draw? from this it is quite easy the determine the cost of running the unit

Check To See If The Compressor Is Running All The Time And Make Sure Your Defrost Timer Is Not Defrosting Wile It Is Running
