RE: Freezer cycles from -20 to -11 once every 24 hours

    Hello, im new to forum.

Our freezer is approaching 6 months old.
Its been fine up to now.

Just recently its begun to cycle once every 24 hours (roughly) from -20 to -11. This takes about 35 mins to complete.

We have had two engineer visits. The engineer today has replaced the thermostat, and changed the gas valve.

He said the temperature will go up and down.
Surely this isnt right, is it?

I was led to beleive that action should be taken when the temp rises above -15.

Should I ditch the freezer, or is this something that can be fixed?

    Isn't it a defrosting cycle?

It could be, its just that i have never seen it happen until just recently. It only usually does it once a day. Sometimes it doesnt do it for a couple of days.

Is it normal for the temperature to rise to -11. Wouldnt the food in the freezer be affected by this daily fluctuation.
I presume that the food has to be kept at -18 or less constantly.

The air temperature will rise slightly during a defrost cycle, depending on the length of it. If it is controlled by a manual time clock, shorten the times and have another cycle, so instead of one hour every day, try 3 cycles of say 20 minutes. The key is to have as least defrost times as is possible. I guess it's a domestic freezer, so has air defrost (make sure the fan isn't running during the cycle)

Model is LEC TF3404W. It has a digital display on the top.

We came home at 5. The freezer went up from -20 to -11, this took around 20 mins. It is now 8.15, the freezer finally reached -20 about 7.30. The motor is still running now, and has been since 5pm

I have reviewed my post, and I forgot to mention it is a frost free freezer.

    Oilbubble,

If I remember correctly, there is a single compressor, and a solenoid to control flow of refrigerant to the evaporator (some types use the refrigerant from the freezer and run it through the fridge). I have sent you a private message with some further details.

forget the last post-it isn't a fridge freezer is it.

The other thing is perhaps a coil sensor (to start defrost cycle)
