How much ***** for Coke machine

    Hi there, my first post....

I am fixing my old Dixie-Narco 501t Coke machine.
I have bought a compressor on ebay, and now I am wondering on how to charge it up?
    I was considering using ENVIRO-SAFE ES-12a from
    http://autorefrigerants.us/
Since the compressor is originally an R-12 type, I was wondering if this would work, and how much of the refrigerant would be needed, and how much and what kind of oil?
The compressor can be seen here:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...611839104&rd=1

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Matt

My first concern is...is the unit suited for you Coke machine?
This unit seems on a firstsight far too big for it.
    Has it a receiver?

Then,..if it shoud suit..do you have the proper equipment to instal it? Vacuum pump, an acetlylen/oxygen torch, a manifold, ....?

You can't calculate this amount, you have to add some amount and monitor your gauges closely. If your gauges tells you (!) that some gas had to bed add, then you have to add some.

I should start with 500 gr

It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

The simple but perhaps too easy answer is RTFM or have a look at the data plate.

I agree with the above quote , but then you can learn a lot from experience . Perhaps you can find some propane based refrigerants and when you get a gas leak use a Halight detector . There are some basic ways of charging a system that are on capillary. I cant imagine a Coke Fridge being on anything else . Charge it up till it floods back without the fan on that will do it. And yes that unit looks a little large but you havent given enough info on the evap size etc .

This is a hydrocarbon refrigerant very much like Care 30. I think OGB is right, you need to get this checked out before you use it, the macine may not be suitable for flammable gases.
It's a lovely day to pump some gas

Yes well I was joking about the propane based refrigerant gas . Although there was an attempt to market that type of gas in OZ it has a died a natural death I hope . Obviously the coke machine owner is a backyarder and having a crack at making his machine work .
Unless he gives evaporator details theres no point and trying to work anything out . Is there ?
