Are Trane Expensive

I've just placed an order for a replacement condensing unit PCB - cost = £253, carraige = £30.

I think Trane are taking the P*ss.

Same thing from Daikin = £98 + £15 carraige.

I'm sure the customer will think I'm taking the P*ss when he gets my bill

Just had a similar problem with a PCB for an older Email ducted split.

Cost was about $525 Aus + 10% gst
small board about 200mm by 100mm

I think they just keep the price low enough where it's not worth the customer putting in a new unit.

As a chiller manufacturer, all I can say is that chiller market is down to the very bottom. Lower than this it can only dive. Competitors are selling at a price lower than my pure costs.

Manufacturers repay the industrial costs by spares. At the moment the mark-up on spares is 6-fold and climbing.

I dont recall buying anthing ever from daikin that was cheaper than or equal to £98. certainly not a pcb.


and yes, trane are expensive £250 oil filter for a screw comp. similar in halfords for diesel eng. £8.50. you do the maths.

I think NoNickname has hit the nail on the head. Spares will always be expensive due to massive mark ups. They help off set the cost of dropping the margins on new equipment.

you have to check carefully if you need the original spare in the first place, many times you can use a better substitute.

Having worked for both Trane and Daikin in the past I would agree that with all the manufactures of both a/c and refrigeration equipment that they are working on low margins for new equipment but any spares you have little choice and so the prices are sky high. Both the manufacture and the distributor seem to work on high mark ups. I can suggest you try JSA in Sunbury on Thames who were a Trane service agent up to 1993 and are able to source parts more directly.

Good to know the industry has an alternative to purchasing from just the manufacturers.

There is a company called ACES in Henley on Thames which will supply compressor parts, valve plates ect.
