How much run time should a compressor have?
Is there a prefered percentage of run time for a condensing unit in a 24 hour period?

Re: How much run time should a compressor have?
The first question is related to method of defrost. If the system is medium temperature, then air defrost is probably used.
An air defrost cycle is longer than a positive defrost cycle such as electric or hot gas.
The total amount of time for the defrost periods is deducted from 24 hours. At design operating conditions, the balance of the 24 hours remaining (after deducting the defrost time) is what the capacity was probably based on.

Re: How much run time should a compressor have?
Depends on the system
minimum interval between two compressor starts
5 minutes
minimum compressor off time
2 minutes
minimum compressor on time
2 minutesThe primary function of the design engineer is to make things difficult for the fabricator and impossible for the serviceman.
