2kW AC compressor high current.
Hi all,
what is a rough resistance on PSC 1Ph motor of about 2kW input power. I have 0.5ohm and 1.5ohm roughly. Is this in the ballpark? I compressor is pulling big amps (2x max running), it is a rotary type, starts OK but I am suspecting that the compressor is sticky. The only thing that doesnt make sense with that diagnosis is that a sticky compressor wouldn't start easily right? should i change out the capacitor?
thank you!

Re: 2kW AC compressor high current.
240V so that makes running amps 8.5A. I have been thinking a bit more, if a bad capacitor was causing the extra current (over double running amps, 21A or so) surely the cap would be getting seriously hot, no?
thoughts??

Re: 2kW AC compressor high current.
You need to check the existing cap with a test meter to see if it is out of range.
If you were to swap the cap and it worked ok, maybe the cap was bad, maybe it would have run ok that time anyway.
The cap could be bad and the system could have another fault, a test meter will help you determine whats going on.

Ok Cap may be bad what do people think about the resistances in the motor windings. I know there are some reference books around with tech data for common compressors, where does one get these??
thank you
