Just had a quick look. Your right, it is a bit dated- R12 system. Should make interesting reading though.

Main voltage onboard is not always the same as on land. The 240 VAC or 220VAc is limited for small appliances.

Most marine generators produce 3 phase power thus making it more efficient to run a 3 phase motor belt driven system. We use the same systems on our scallop boats here in the northeast!

belt drive is only used on reciprocating compressors because the max rpm is lower as a normal electric motor can do, however the newer screw compressors are always direct, and some even have a gear inside to make more revs.
Yes we also have some direct driven by main engine on a trawler, with a coupling in it.
so not true about belt drive same as on land.
Even big 12 cilinders are belt driven.computer shooter
