    Pre-EXpansion

Hi, bit of a boring & stupid question for you guys. Can anyone tell me why some manufacturers employ a system of pre-expansion in the outdoor unit of their split air conditioning units? I can only assume that its more efficient than carrying out the expansion at the indoor unit? thanks

It keeps the high pressures all in one place.

    Re: Pre-EXpansion

A large segment of global sales of split systems is for domestic application & customer expectation for low noise level.

Pre expansion at outdoor unit helps reduce refrigerant noise at the indoor unit in cooling mode.

I think you may find that the total refrigerant charge for the system is also reduced when using outdoor unit pre expansion.
