American Football Rules ????

Hi Guys,

As a sports fan, i like to watch most sports on TV. I am sitting here at the moment watching the Superbowl and just can't understand it.

First of all, This is a sport i could involved in, the plays only last about 10 seconds and then they stop for a commercial break (Plenty of thime for a cigerette).

What is confusing me is this 1st down and 10 .
Now i understand the 1st,2nd,3rd downs ect but what does the and 10 mean

I am doing exactly the same thing... well I vowed never to watch rugby again after the weekend!

say it was 2nd and 6, it means they have got to gain 6 yards before they get another 1st down.

what I don't understand is why they need so much padding... bunch of girls!

Surely, if you've had a first down it would make more sense for the next down to be the second
