The new regulations on working on electrics are very confusing can any one help? Being a fridge tec for over 25 years will I still require a 'qualified electrician' to add sockets ect. in my home, And what about at work, will I have to get the spark to check my electrical work.

The new regs are very confusing!!

Basically you cannot do ANY wiring additions to kitchens,gardens or bathrooms without part P certification.

You may be allowed to add an additional socket to an existing circuit

As yet I cannot get a g.tee that the interconnect is/is not a new circuit... :-((

Getting part P approval for a fridgie will req' 16th edition examination and pass.

Then you can apply for part P. However once you have the certification the fun begins as all new circuits will need to be checked acording to the regs.

Plus if you add a socket to an existing circuit you have to prove that it's 'safe' -how can you prove this?? Part P of course...!!!

It's loop that can only get tighter..

Oh and if you 'avoid' part P and get caught -it's a big fine for you AND the home owner..Remember the homeowner will have to have his house certified as 'safe' when he comes to sell it etc..

Forget hording old colour black/red wiring (like a few sparkies I know) once kit comes in with a 2005 stamp you are caught done and dusted.

The way I see it , it is not very confusing at all, pretty straightforward as far as air conditioning, fridge install is concerned.

How does this affect interconnect cabling???

To be on the safe side, I will get a qualified electrician to work from distribution board up to isolation point.

you wire from an isolator to -say- the indoor unit. -no problem.

you then run a supply from this unit to the outdoor unit. technically this 'could' be considered a 'new circuit'.

as i have said i've yet to get a positive answer either way..
