SILENCER FOR NOISY Payne HEAT PUMP
We have a 3ton Payne heat pump which is very noisy during heating cycles. Is there a hood which could be installed around or over the unit to reduce this invasion.

Re: SILENCER FOR NOISY Payne HEAT PUMP
If you mount hood, that will affect air flow. You need to find cause of noise and isolate source (compressor, reversing valve).

Re: SILENCER FOR NOISY Payne HEAT PUMP
Good question but no, you don't want to cover the heat pump. You need to find out the reasoning behind the excessive noise. Is it air flow related or mechaincal related? Is it just the reversing valve going in and out of the heating mode? Could it just be the screws on the framework loose? What is the age of the equipment? it is even possible it could be noise from harmonic vibration from the line set. A full diagnosis needs to be done here.
