    Lightbulb STULZ MIB Transformer Glitz?



    Dear All,

    Got a STULZ MIB controller with 220/115vac primary and 12/24vac secondary output.

    The transformer overheats on 115vac power supply with zero output, but runs well on 220vac.

    We're quite in a hurry so, we manage with 220 instead of 115 supply.

    I've got no chance to verify the wiring.

    Any insight please?????????

    Do you need to modify the input wiring for 115v supply ?

    Hello Cooltrain,
    In the past i have come accross trannsformer & controllers that have had both 110 & 240v shown on them. (Carel Springs straight to mind) Although it shows both it will only work on one voltage depending how it's wired inside.
    I think it's just done for simplicity when printing off the labels but when ordering you have to specify which one you want either either uk or europe specs

    Hi Brian,

    Actually, the prescribed site power supply is 115vac for controllers as per customer req.
    The trans is supposedly dual voltage. It is also reflected in the installation wiring (field wiring).
    Due to the above mentioned prob. we modified to 220vac instead.

    This scenario could be due to the magnetic flux or emf induced on the transformer.
    The magnetic flux in the core depends on the voltage applied to the transformer's windings, As you draw more current, the resistance of the wires causes a voltage drop, slightly reducing the effective AC voltage applied to the windings, and thus reducing the magnetic flux by the proportional amount.
    As the heat losses increase on 110v(primary) ,this may be due to the induced emf on the transformer increasing.

    115v and 220v is the choice,can choose any one.coz the output is same 24v.
