L'unité hermétique FH-4525-YHR 220V/1/50Hz
What happens when i install a FH-4525-YHR 220V/1PH/50Hz (L'unité Hermétique) cooler on 220V/1PH/60Hz?

Dont bother as it will damage the electrical components. Ie compressor and fan motor.

Hi Joeri,
The frequency affects the speed of rotation of the compressor, which will affect the refrigeration capacity. To obtain refrigeration capacity at 60Hz multiply 50Hz value by 1.2 .
Following info from Unite Hermetic (Techumseh) relating to their dual frequency rated reciprocating compressors:
.....Rated............Approved
A) 100-1-50.........90/110-1-50
....115-1-60........103/127-1-60
C) 208-1-50....... 187/230-1-50
....230-1-60....... 207/253-1-60
J) 380-3-50........ 340/440-3-50
...440-3-60......... 396/484-3-60
K) 220-3-50 ........180/253-3-50
....220-3-60........ 187/264-3-60
As you can see, when you run on 50Hz as opposed to 60Hz, the voltage range that you can use is reduced.
This is because the reduced motor speed results in a reduced 'back emf' from the motor, and so inorder to keep motor current within limits, you need to reduce the line supply voltage.
In your case, running a 50Hz unit on 60Hz, the increased back emf will result in a reduced current draw, with a corresponding reduction in motor power. It will run, but to be on the safe side I would contact the compressor manufacturer to see what they advise?

I think this has come up before. The power supply here is 230V 50Hz, but a company I service, has ships with a 230V 60Hz power supply. I can not obtain 60Hz compressors and so have been fitting what is available locally with no apparent problems. I have had the odd failure but these can generally be attributed to other reasons.
Because you pick up about 12% capacity I downsize the replacement compressorLast edited by kiwireeferman; 06-06-2008 at 09:08 AM.

Joeri, welkom op dit forum.
Van welke streek bent u? Post ook even een berichtje in de introductiesectie.
Sorry for the Dutch my friends.
Joeri, it will give 20% more cooling capacity because it runs 20% faster (frequency is direct related to rotational speed) and as long as the running current stays below max current, I don't see any problem.
Most of these UH's runs far below max current, so you can say that the motor most likely will not be overloaded and you will not suffer overheating.
What's the application? Will this machine be exported to AUS or NZ?Last edited by Peter_1; 08-06-2008 at 07:50 AM.
