On a linked matter...
We had notification today about counterfeit MCBs coming onto the UK market. Believed to originate in China - surprise.
When opened up all that was inside was a straight switch, no trip mechanism at all.
So take care folks.Brian - Newton Abbot, Devon, UK

Re: RCD's Selection Criteria and operating principles
Received the official Alert documents today about the dodgy MCBs; unfortunately the copy is not good enough to repeat here.
They are made to imitate Merlin Gerin, the picture shows ..
1 x Merlin Gerin Multi 9 K60N B6 MCB
1 x Multi 9 C45N C10 MCB
When these units were drilled open they were found to NOT contain an overload element or any short circuit capability, they are simply a switch
So all I would suggest is that you take extra care when at your local wholesaler, he may not know what he has been sent.
edit: If I did what I ask others to do then this would have been included first time.....
Checking with Google brought up these pictures..
