Oils
CAN ANY ONE HELP,
I NEED TO KNOW WHICH OILS ARE BEST USED WITH:
AMMONIA @-40C
R22 @-15C
R134a @5C
AS AM GETTING ALLOT OF CONFLICTING INFORMATION REGARDING FLOC POINT OF AMMONIA AT THIS TEMP,
ALSO THE R134a SEEMS TO BE STATING SEVERAL DIFFERENT TYPES.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GLADLY RECEIVED.

For R22 Low, Medium, High Temp ,the recommended oil is Mineral oil. For R134a Medium & High Temp, the recommended oil is POE.

For Ammonia at -40c you should stay away from mineral or Hydrotreated mineral oils as their pour point is too high about -31c. Maybe look at a PAO for the low temp application.

We used a hydro-treated PetroCanada Reflo 68A with very good results on Ammonia at -40C after problems with standard mineral oils thickening up and high oil carry-over. The higher cost was offset by reduced oil carry-over. We carried out extensive monitoring over two years before fully converting. Sabroe recommended we tried the oil.
R22, use standard mineral oil.
