An entire yard of really old verticals

Could not resist sending these pictures of my friends sales/storage yard at C and R in Texas You could find just about everything in refrig made out there york, baker, Vilter, Frick,.worthington, etc etc...

It was always fun to walk around these wonderful old machines.

About 12 years ago myself and another guy went to C&R to buy some second hand equipment, from memory the town is called Centre (not sure if spelling is right). I was amazed he had so many vertical twins and that he reconditioned so many of them and sold them.
Ask your friend if he remembers the guys from Adelaide.
We still work on a few, biggest being a 10x10.
They last forever but when repairs are required everything is specially made, very expensive.

Until I took another job awhile back we still repaired them.
They still have a few in the yard, and a few parts on the shelf.
Always like to hear them go around. If taken care of and not slugged they go for a long time.

am still using Frick 6X6 , JE Hall, 14.75X9 ich compound , Udec, etc 1968 models and Linde 10X7 inch 1970 model verticals 2 cyl V type ,,,meant for Ammonia but being run on ***** !!

I know an ice plant running even much older Grasso's without any problem !!

It makes me believe that Necessity is the Mother of Invention !
Developing countries still have place for the old junk shown in the picture,,,,they have ample time and lesser resources to repair/refurbish them for making them serviceable again !

We are using a Frick 6 x 6 HDI as a pump out unit for our ammonia plan.
It's run a few hours per week.
5 years ago, we were using a 4 cylinders Frick 12 x 12 HDI. It was running well, but It was changing by single screw compressor.

Cool pics. Back in the late 70's I worked at a place that was formerly an ice plant, and they still had these 2 huge vertical twins in place. They are sure impressive when you stand next to them.

We recently restarted up and old meat plant in Texas that has 5 Frick Long shaft 9 by 9 units. All are doing fine at 350 RPMs and all just passed 50 years of age.
Fun to watch them work....
