LOL Dude, Gold would be cheap as chips if it were in plentifull supply, you guys should stop beating yourselves up about it. R12 is gone.
Here in the UK we stopped using it about a decade ago..(good old Montreal Protocol).

It's a delicate balance of supply and demand. There's no question that supply is going down and as long as the supply depletion is faster than decrease in demand, price stays high.Quote:

But demand still outstrips supply. I cant really comment on R12 refrigeration, regarding auto ac there are still plenty of guys in the US running old smokers that still use R12, I see about three a year here in the UK, very few are worth the time and cash to save.

Where as R12 is supperior to its relevant drop in replacements, the cost of R12 will keep on rising as manufacture of the gas drops and ceases. So may be it might worth trying one of its cheaper long term replacements like R413a.
