Hi guys, this is my first post so "howdy"
The problem Ive got is to do with a air compressor, but the parts that are broken relate to fridges I think.
The part is branded Klixon,cant see any other I.D. numbers.
Tried to post pics of the item but I haven't submitted enough posts on the forum.
Can anyone host me a few pics?
The question is where can I get replacement relays for this vintage equipment?
Please try and keep it simple Im not a trained engineer:o

Hi Paul and welcome to the forum.
When you say 'Air Compressor'....is it like a domestic refrigeration compressor.....i.e. a circular/oval pot like at the back of your fridge?
Does the compressor have 3 pins on the side, and the relay pushes onto the lower two pins, and has a coil of thick wire (golden coloured) on the lower part?
Are there any makers ident marks on the compressor?

Thats exactly what theyre like, the compressor has two round (like kinder egg) shaped pots on top, the fittings for the relays look like three little pins, the relay plugs onto the bottom two pins, a thermal overload goes onto the top pin.
The actual relay is made by Klixon, no other markings (serial No's etc)
The terminals on the relay are numbered 1 and 2, the push on connector part has letters M and S.
Underneath is the gold coloured coil wire.
The compressor was made by a firm called Porter Lancastrian Ltd, Bolton.
Its an old piece of kit, there's a plate on it dated 1972!
Its frustrating that I can't take photos and post so you can see the item!

Before you are replacing the relay, have you checked the windings are OK?
(after you checked the windings out, you could always test run the compressor with the start relay from the other compressor...)
Firstly Morgan thanks for posting my images.
Now then, where do I get a replacement start relay from.
The actual compressor pots work,after I hotwired the capacitiors...GULP!
You have what's called a current relay. With this compressor being so old I suggest you pick up a solid state relay designed for fractional HP compessors. Here in the US Supco is a very popular product.
Compressors look like STERNE or NECCHI.
What is value and voltage of capacitors ?
Universal relay up to 1/2hp should do. Where abouts in UK are you.
Have you ever changed the oil in these compressors?

(I'd feel a right narna walking into maplins and asking for one)
Ive never changed the oil, but the previous owner did,there are details on the back of the compressor about maintenance schedules/oil types.

(What we need to know capacitor value for is just to confirm whether its a starting cap or run cap...guess its start cap, which will determine type of universal relay to buy)

Im more or less certain its a start cap(only flicks on to actually start the compressor running then disables)
Ill find the info off the cap and give the local suppliers a ring, hopefully they'll be as helpful as you guys.
