VRF Toshiba twinned MMY-MAP1404FT8-E Recover R410

Hi All,
I have to replace a 4 way valve on a VRF outdoor Toshiba MMY-MAP1404FT8-E which is twinned with another holding 40 k of R410.
I'd like to pump the gas in the faulty outdoor unit into the other side of the system ie the other unit and pipe work and shut the isolation valves.
Presumably I can shut the oil balance pipe, suction and liquid pipe and leave the discharge pipe valve open. [It's a 3 pipe system with another oil balance pipe]
If I then force it into heating I'm assuming I can push hot gas into the other side of the system and trap most of it there. Any gas left in the faulty unit I can them reclaim to be re charged once the repairs done after setting the unit into recovery mode.
Has any one done this sort of thing before? Any help appreciated thanks
