Anyone familiar with the Simag SV135 ice machine, identical in operation to a Manitowoc with the vertical evaporator etc. I have a problem with one but no technical info, I have contacted Simag in Italy and waiting a reply. The problem is it is cutting out on alarm, not high pressure alarm, just alarm, reset it and it works and harvests fine, as soon as you leave it, it trips on alarm, any ideas. It all appears to be working fine, the condenser filter was blocked, the gas charge is ok, the water pump and water flow is working ok, no noticable problems. On the sticker inside the machine it explains in a poor translation that the alarm is too long a defrost, any one had this problem before or have a fault finding manual.

Cheers guys.

Andy.

Andy

Have you tried coil cleaner on the condensor as the internal fins may be still blocked

Try the link above as they claim to do Simag spares

First you need to find out whether the alarm is actually "too long to defrost" instead of to long to make ice etc.
Then you need to work out how it knows what the defrost time was, ie does it use door switches over the ice plate to detect ice dropping, a proximity switch or does it use pipe temp sensors etc.
Then thats where you start, checking that component.
Ice machines are fun, they're always wierd solutions.
some of mine are : water filter carbon cloggin up the float valve, rod for the flap bent out of shape, welds on the evap plate cracked, condenser fan dies after a few hours operation.
I've never had a simple refrigeration problem with one like compressor or refrigerant ever.

I forgot about that post, I contacted the factory and the mailed me a pdf engineers service guide, basically the magnetic reed switch on the flap was scaled up, a bit of a clean up and it has been fine since, I was on site just before xmas and enquired how it had been and touch wood, no more problems.

Yes I still have the pdf, pm me your email address and I will forward it out.

I cant beleive it was 2 years ago since working on that machine, I got called out to it last Wednesday funnily enough but it was just a blocked condenser filter mesh and a matter of resetting the HP switch.
