Hi everybody
I`m trying to dimensioning some refrigerant pipes, but I don`t know wich are the recommended refrigerant velocities. Could someone recommend me some values for the different system lines (suction, liquid, discharge, hot-gas defrost)?

I`m using Solkane solution for this calcs, but If anyone have a different solution, I`m all ears.

Thanks a lot.

Danfoss has software. They call it "DIRcalc".
I am in Canada and I find that the Solkane software has funny copper pipe sizes. Danfoss is better in that regard.
The Dupont web site has some information. I had downloaded it but I cannot find the link. They give velocity and pipe size charts. Not as convienient as software but a good guide.
Finally I am told that if POE oil is used it is completely miscible with R404a and velocity is not an issue. I am also told that there are minimum velocities that must be considered in suction and discharge llines. The numbers that I have found are 4-15m/s and 8-12m/s for vertical risers and 0.3-1m/s for liquid lines. And as always pressure drop must be a consideration.
If you find anything else I would be interested in hearing from you.
