Hi,
Previously I was considering DX system for central airconditioning for my residential project (4-5 units x 18000 BTU) on single compressor with VFD.

Upon little survey I saw that chilled water system could also work and maybe more effecient. I belive it would be less mantainance with chilled water as I only have to chill water in a tank and passing water through FCU.

Further technically, I can skip VFD on compressor as if water once chilled could stay chilled for couple of hours or an hour atleast if number of FCU reduced from 4 to 1 (on demand).

Kindly guide me if this project would be more adivcable compared with DX or otherwise?

I guess my question is very basic, but I would appriciate if someone can coment on it.

.

In the UK water chillers are more commercial and industrial and I'm not aware of any domestic versions.

We are working a lot with Heat pump technology and that tends to be water circulated but not used for chilling
although it is possible to have it as heating and cooling.

I have no answer so I wait for people with more experience in this but I would tend to think in small domestic applications that the DX version would be the one to pick just because of the install costs for a water chiller system with pumped water and heat exchangers.

most chillers do not come with a tank so you will need space for a chiller and insulated tank dx might be better option on a small installation

One potential problem is getting suitable sizes for the indoor units as the chw cooling coils tend to be larger than DX units.

Personally I like chw but installation can be tricky.

Hi, skhan855

both systems are good, but I believe that numbers for
small home use are against chw ...

try to put all costs for DX and chw system together
and you will see by yourself ... which one is cheaper to install and
later on more reliable with less maintenance ...

Best regards, Josip
