Positon of Compressor

In relation to a Split System, Can someone please advise if the vertical position of the compressor (outside unit) in relation to the evaporator (inside unit) is important. Some diagrams seem to show the compressor below the evaporator ?

Shouldn't make any difference as long as the design pipe lengths and sizes are maintained.
