Hi, do ice traps work on ammonia systems for removing water? Water ends up in the coldest part of the system so if you made a colder part would the water migrate there? Cheers.

I suggest installing an H.A. Phillips Anhydrator System Cleaner. It basically traps contaminants such as water. You can get information on how it works on their website

We are cheapskates, we have a spare ammonia portable vessel.
Fill if up 50 %, let it vent naturally back into system.
Do that a number of times, drain water off, check amount.
Keep doing that until no water left.
Get client to keep filling, over a few weeks or so should get less & less. MJust need a suitable spare ammonia vessel.

What works well is an oil trap under a Low Pressure Receiver. Vent it off as RANGER1 suggests.
I had a system years ago that split a oil cooler for a Vilter piston machine. We found a lot of the water eventually ended up in the Intercooler.

Thanks all. I have experience with the above methods and I’m a cheapskate too hence wanting to try the cold trap. I’ll see if the client is keen for me to give it a go and I will report back.
