Hi, apologies if this is in the wrong place, moderators feel free to move it if it is....

I have a prestcold fridge from the 50s. Does anyone know a good place for wiring advice/compatible spare parts for these units?

I believe the starter relay may be faulty and would like to find info and wiring for the unit but am struggling.

Door switch and light work as they should and compressor runs quietly and I believe the gas is still good but the current starter relay gets very hot and not sure if this is faulty.

Prestcold part number for the relay 11/2/261 (11/2/26I). Not sure which is correct
S.O.C 002

Thanks

Alex

A worthy struggle no doubt...

Can you get any details from the actual compressor at all as it may be easier to identify/match spares for that.

You can replace most old style start relays with universal solid state devices that have quite wide range ratings and also incorporate overloads
Try SRW who stock SUPCO generic components, 01273 455530

Is that a good or bad thing haha?!

Can you shed any light on what relay I may need for this? I have spoke to the people mentioned above but they can’t guarantee anything.

The original relay was also the hub for the rest of the cables which includes the interior light and switch, and the thermostat controls..... the terrible wiring has to go!15542

You will have to fit the terminations into an enclosure and use connectors for the cables.
The relay I would try is either SUPCO RO82 for 1/12 to 1/8 HP SRW ref number 2405 or the RO62 for 1/5 to 1/6 HP, SRW ref number 2305 I cannot see the rating clearly on the photo, I can see it looks like 1/6 or 1/8
The relay has three flying leads Red, Black and White (for the connection to the compressor) and two black leads these are the Line and Neutral.
Both these options have the overload incorporated as an integral part of the relay.

Hi thanks for the info!

The compressor is 1/8hp

I know if a lot of effort for such and old unit but I really like these things....

Looked at something similar a while back, an old Coke fridge. Think they're was a coin operated mechanism to drop the bottles out. The guy had it in his conservatory with one more and an old jukebox.
Unit had a faulty thermostat. Linked it out but still not going. Compressor was a great big thing, 12" diameter and probably weighed over the odds as well, thought it was time to put my black arm band on. Poked about a bit more and twigged it was running although like Airwolf in stealth mode, could barely hear it but it was running fine.
In general acoustics seems to have taken a step back on commercial fridges but the wiring on those True cabinets remains the same. 🤣
