View Full Version : 12kw 6000 liters Waterchiller pulldown time

customer has a small 12kw waterchiller they want to hook onto there 6000liter uninstalled plastic buffer tank, I dont have any flow rates but ive been trying to work out how long it would take to pull down from 20deg to 7degC tank only no other heatload - doesnt have to be accurate just a ruff idea but I am struggling to find a method, can anyboy help out or point me in the right direction

or very roughly,

specific heat of water 4.18 KJ/kg k
1 Kg for 1 Litre of water
12 KJ/s cooling from chiller
13 degree temp change

Q=m x c x change in temp
Q=6000Kg x 4.18 KJ/Kg K x 13 degrees
Q=326040 KJ

Time taken with 12 Kw of cooling,
326040 KJ / 12 KJ/s / 60 seconds / 60 minutes = about 7.54 Hours

Lots of stuff not taken into account for though.

Thats okey we are just going for rough numbers, we also have 15 hours up our sleeve to pre chill the tank, I was thinking more of around 25kw but in this case they have an old 12kw system in storage we can temporary install fist and go from there
