Daikin Inverter Unit at IT System (No Neutral)

Hi,

Would like to check, we have one project which is for ship/vessel with Daikin inverter unit.

we are planning to supply Daikin Inverter unit for Vessels which is unearthed system ( 3 wire system, No Neutral).
The Daikin unit is commercial usage one and designed for Line and Neutral (230V, L+N), however the vessel voltage is Line to Line(L1+L2) , but the voltage is same.

My service person is saying that, the system need neutral otherwise system will not function.
Now, We are worrying that the inverter unit might not work in L1 + L2 supply.
Any one having this experience?.

Not sure of the L1+L2 system, but here in the UK, if you start the inverter unit without a Neutral attached it blows the inverter pcb.

Have fitted MHI units on a ship. Can't remember the exact details but think standard for ships is 240 but split across L1 and L2, bit like 110V site transformers that are centre tapped.
Anyway, this setup was like that and I was pretty surprised to see it fire up with no problems.

You require a transformer sized for the unit ,where the primary circuit is connected to L1and L2 ,the secondary will give you your single phase ,live and neutral connection for the unit. You should be able to get a suitable transformer via your electrical supplier or get one wound to suit the job .
When you have a 3 phase power supply without a neutral, using a transformer will give you the required output live and neutral connections.

As mentioned, the voltage is same 230V but thing is Line to Line, Not Line to Neutral.
as per the daikin unit is designed for L to N (230V), the connection to L to L (230V) is at our own risk.

In vessel/Hull all the lighting are connected with L to since no neutral.

Experienced guy (who has the filed experience) guided now, should have neutral , otherwise unit will not function. but not sure why...

each unit current is apprx 15amps.. in this case the transformer is too heavy to install.....
