Does anyone have any guidelines or checklists for energy management / cost reduction for refrigerated warehouses?

HI nh3wizard,

I don't know off any checklists but I can offer the following guidelines:

1) Get the discharge pressure down. Depending on your system installation and requirements you should be able to operate as low as 100 psi (6.89 bar g) or lower when the wet bulb temperatures are low. You may have some limitations that will not allow you to decrease too far.

2) Use VFD's on the condenser and evaporator fans.

3) get the suction pressure as high as possible.

4) keep the screw compressor(s) fully loaded to at least 80-90%. This can cost you some big money ($$) if they operate at part load.

5) Keep the doors closed! (as much as possible).

6) Try to use off-peak power when possible.

7) Keep the non-condensables out of the system.

8) Add more condenser capacity.

9) Know what your electric utility is charging you for power and how they bill you.

That is a short list of the important items.

Best Regards,

A short list...that's THE list which covers 95% of the savings you can make, especially point 1 - 3 and 2 (in order of importance for me)

Don't forget to clean the coils every once in a while and check the system for problems.
