Vilter 450XL

Hello Gentlemen!!!
We have a vilter recip. ammonia compressor. It seems like unloaders dont load even when the pressure goes up way over the set point. Honestly i never dealt with piston compressors before, as my previous job was all about screw compressors...Can anyone help me with the operations of this unloader on the banks..how do they operate?? what determines them to kick in and go out?? etc...
appreciate any feedback in advance!!!

Loading is by oil pressure activated by a solenoid valve for each head.
Check oil pressure, should be about 45psi above suction pressure.
USually 1 permanently loaded head with no unloaded required.
Find what turns on load solenoid example pressure switch, PLC programme.
Check that solenoid gets power or is ok, not burnt out, go from there.

If oil pressure low or suspect, machine has replaceable oil filter on end of compressor (Tri-micro filter).
If it has gauges up/downstream of filter, pressure drop can be calculated.
Normally filter is changed out annually or when required.

Depending on the age of your compressor it could be discharge pressure that operates the unloaders, if so check all the small ports, but if it is oil follow Rangers advice.
