Hi, my 7 meter easycold branded commercial fridge started playing around and i called in an engineer to fix it. Instead of 2° C it was on 10° C. The engineer told me that the "gas" had finished in the fridge and that it would cost me £500 to fill it up and get it running properly again. I couldn't afford the meat/dairy/fruit/veg produce to go bad so i went ahead with it. Everything works well now and i would just like to know if that price sounds right to you guys? Apparently the gas is £400 on its own. This is the gas he used...

gas price is under £!50 quid, the question is , if the gas has gone, did he find the leak? and is it repaired or did he just squirt it in and leggit?
if you say a typical hourly rate mon-fri is £40 per hour- more down south, did he spend a few hrs?
if he's repaired the leak properly then he would have needed nitrogen- £35 a bottle and ideally replace the liq line drier- approx 20 quid

He didn't mention a leak he just said that the gas had finished and it took him an hour to finish the job, he didn't relace anything. Did I just get mugged off? :)
Oh and I'm in Essex

he's topped up a system, having a bottle of 404a upright, with no dip tube on it ( only 1 port, labelled vapour) he's not charged it in liquid form, (bottle must be upside down to charge)
if the gas has leaked out it will leak out again, breach of f gas regs
id say he's had ur keks down and spanked ya- northern term

For that price I would fly over twice a week...... and bring my own refrigerant.
