Is there a prefered percentage of run time for a condensing unit in a 24 hour period?

The first question is related to method of defrost. If the system is medium temperature, then air defrost is probably used.

An air defrost cycle is longer than a positive defrost cycle such as electric or hot gas.

The total amount of time for the defrost periods is deducted from 24 hours. At design operating conditions, the balance of the 24 hours remaining (after deducting the defrost time) is what the capacity was probably based on.

Depends on the system

hi sir
yes there is , it depends upon the outside temprature , as it varies up and down , the percentage of running also varies
the avarage of running is between 12 and 18 hour withen the 24 hour of the day
best wishes

In the UK 18 hours would be the standard, but be careful of over sizing, if the unit is a bit on the large size, try selecting on a 20 hour run time, or where humidity is a problem use 22 hour run time.

Kind Regards. Andy:)
