I am currently working on a walk in freezer about 2.5 metres square, the system is on a copeland scroll condensing unit, the problem is the suction line is freezing up outside, it's on R404a and the suction runs at 18psig and discharge at 200psig, not too far out I thought?
There is no obvious damage to the pipes, the liquid line runs warm with a clear sight glass and the TEV isn't a block of ice? However the pipes leading into the evaporator are heavily iced up and so is the suction pipe outside.... What's going off lads?
Cheers
Matt

With your suction pipe at -27°C I'm not really surprised that the pipe surface has ice/frost on it.

What is the suction superheat reading and is the pipework insulated at all?

I'm due back on site on thurs to look deeper into it as it was full of products yesterday... I'll test the superheat then, but the insulation was looking a bit old if I'm honest, could it be as simple as that?

Could be, weathers changed also.
