Evening all
My name is ciaran, I'm from London .
I'm actually posting this with a little embarrassment as I'm not only new to what looks like a great forum, but also the industry
I have spent the last nine years since graduating from university as a self employed ADR driver delivering all sorts of nasty stuff over Europe . i have worked for the MOD delivering ammunition and explosives.
Now I have decided to have a complete career change, I have recently paid for myself to study for city and guilds 2079 and 2081 which I have passed, and I have my heart set on a career within the industry. Ideally I'd like to end up working abroad , but who knows .
My main question is, ( embarrassingly) what are the chances of employment with the city and guilds qualifications I have ?, as I don't have hands on experience?
I'm sure this has been asked before , but appreciate the fb, my current job is pretty specialised but what I want is to learn a skilled trade. I'm 37 years old So plenty of time !

I don't know what you have been told but those courses on their own will only qualify you for a job as an apprentice...
Sorry.

I wasn't told anything and wasn't under any illusion that I would walk strait into a job earning x amount. What I want is to have a career change. If that involves becoming an apprentice then so be it. what I have noticed is how very few people are applying for jobs in the industry. Are employers actually finding individuals with current f gas certification ? I hold an ADR certificate and could go into haz chem transport but I have chosen the air con / fridge industry instead .
Incidentally haz chem transport pays similar to that of air conditioning.
Any comments? Regards
