Afternoon,

I've got this SMC IDF-B22E refrigerated air dryer here that is charged with R-134a. I'm an ammonia guy so I have a slight idea what I'm looking at but it's all fairly strange. The only instrumentation on the thing is a temperature gauge on the front panel that I assume is indicating suction temp. It normally runs around 10C but now it's sitting at 34C. Two of the four condenser fans were clogged up and not spinning. Got them running and I'm thinking the thing might be down on high head? The black can in there where I assume the compressor lives is hot. About 89C hot when I shot it with my infared.

I can't find any sort of pressure switches and have no idea how to go about resetting the thing if it is off on a safety and not just smoked. Have no manual of course. Anyone know?

IF the condenser fans are running then the compressor is probably tripped on its klixon, leave it off for a few hours if you can.

Don't have any answers for you other than to say that the thermometer looks like the evaporation temperature according to the schematic.

There is a 'brochure' which includes this schematic which might help you, or not. ;)

Google was the first place I went. All I seem to find are brochures which would be great if I was wanting to spec one out and buy it.

The larger units have a high pressure switch, this one doesn't. I learned that much. It never went into 'protective mode'. I guess I'll give it a bit to cool off then see what happens. Thanks guys.
